Takiyah Brown holds her win son & daughter TaKhaiden and TyKhailyn Friday, May15th, 2015 in the Step up Unit of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the University of South Alabama Children's & Women's Hospital. The twins were born at 35 weeks. Kangaroo care is a technique practiced on newborn, usually preterm, infants wherein the infant is held, skin-to-skin, with an adult. Named for the similarity to how certain marsupials carry their young, it was initially developed to care for preterm infants in areas where incubators are either unavailable or unreliable. Friday was Kangaroo Care Awareness day at the hospital.
